چکیده

To investigate the effect of microwave emitted by mobile phones on the rat central nervous system (CNS), in vitro cultured cortical neuronal cells and in vivo rat’s brain were exposed to the electromagnetic waves emitted by a microwave transmitter that mimics the working frequency of mobile phones. Trypan blue staining and terminal deoxynucleotidy transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) were used to determine the survival state of neuronal cells while immunohistochemistry method was used to determine the expression level of Bcl-2 and Bax. Our results show that microwave lead to significant cell death in culture and more in vivo brain neuronal cells were stained positive for TUNEL, Bax and Bcl-2 in rats with cranial defect after exposure than that for † To whom correspondence should be addressed: Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, 88 Jiefang Road, Hangzhou 310009, Zhejiang Province, People’s Republic of China

Evaluation of the Interference of the Microwave Radiation Emitted from GSM Mobile Phones on the Performance of Cell Counters

Abstract Background and Objectives: Incidents related to electromagnetic interference with medical devices have been reported over the past decades. It has also been indicated that the microwave radiation emitted from mobile phones interferes with the operation of medical devices therefore, this study aimed at testing the interference by GSM mobile phones with cell counters. Material and Method...

Assessment of the role of specific absorption rate of mobile phones on the induction of microwave-induced survival adaptive responses after exposure to lethal doses of gamma radiation

Background: Whether exposure to common electromagnetic fields affects human health adversely has been a controversial issue. The main goal of this study was to assess the role of 900 MHz microwave radiations with different specific absorption rates (SARs), emitted from some widely used cell phones, on the induction of adaptive response in male Balb/c mice after receiving a lethal dose of gamma ...

Onm-14: Cell Phones and Fertility Effects (Review

Background: Infertility is defined as inability to conceive after a year of sexual intercourses without the use of contraceptives. In half of the cases the causative factor is the male. Males are exposed to the effect of various environmental factors, which may decrease their reproductive capabilities. Phone electromagnetic power is very small, only a few hundredths of a microwave oven, but bec...

Alterations in TSH and Thyroid Hormones Following Mobile Phone Use

Dear Editor,Lack of ionizing radiation and the low level energy emission from cell phones initially led to a public perception that use of mobile phones is safe. However, the dramatic increase in the use of cell phones has generated great concerns about their potential adverse effects. We have previously found no association between self-reported illness symptoms and the exposures to microwave ...

GSM 900 MHz Microwave Radiation-Induced Alterations of Insulin Level and Histopathological Changes of Liver and Pancreas in Rat

Background: The rapidly increasing use of mobile phones has led to public concerns about possible health effects of these popular communication devices. This study is an attempt to investigate the effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation produced by GSM mobile phones on the insulin release in rats. Methods: Forty two female adult Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. Group1 we...
